Project Lead Position
TDS Custom Construction, Inc. currently has an opening for our Project Lead Carpenter position.
This is a full-time, hourly, and long term employment opportunity that starts in April 2017.
In business since 1985, TDS is a full-service residential design-build contractor specializing in
remodeling, historic restoration, and new construction with an emphasis on energy-efficiency. We
are a well established local company based on the near eastside of Madison Wisconsin and
perform the majority of our work in Madison and the Dane County area.
We are looking for an energetic, driven, and self-motivated individual to join our team of
experienced craftspeople. TDS works on projects ranging from kitchens, baths, and whole house
remodels to new high-performance homes, historic restorations, and additions. We are looking for
an applicant who takes immense pride in their work and values their relationships with clients and
coworkers alike.
Primary Project Lead Duties:
● Provide a quality experience and finished product that exceeds clients’ expectations.
● Emphasize quality and craftsmanship on all aspects of each project.
● Implement and maintain on-site client and construction management from initial project
meeting with sales team through the completion of warranty.
● Execute well-organized projects within budget expectations while maintaining a
well-communicated and realistic schedule.
● Be a team player that can direct and work well with all project team members.
● Seek growth and education opportunities in both roles as carpenter and manager.
Required Skills:
A minimum of 8 years carpentry and 4 years management experience with,
● The ability to execute remodeling and addition projects to structures of all ages.
● A sensibility and appreciation of historic preservation.
● A sensibility and appreciation of energy efficient building practices.
● Current certification for Lead Safe Renovator (training can be provided).
● The ability to execute and enforce OSHA rules and guidelines for residential construction.
● The ability to execute basic and complex building layouts.
● Framing skills: new and remodeling, stick and truss roofs, and stair building.
● The ability to install WRB’s and sidewall drainage plains, exterior door and window
installation, exterior trim and siding, and basic roofing.
● Experience with high performance building assemblies and air sealing techniques is a plus.
● The ability to execute high quality craftsmanship in the installation of interior doors,
cabinetry, and millwork.
● Proficient smartphone and tablet skills.
● A working knowledge of all other trades craft, including electric, plumbing, and HVAC.
● The ability to read and understand construction drawings.
● A familiarity with and working knowledge of the Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code.
● Solid organizational skills.
● Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
● A balance of leadership, judgment, and decision-making skills.
● The ability to creatively solve problems and be flexible in challenging situations.
Wage will be based on experience level.
